Corporal Bonkers was very impressed with the children that took part in the world war two day on tuesday. What a great bunch of kids and the teachers were brill too. We had so much fun drilling and showing our artefacts off to you all, your efforts with the colouring of your gasmasks and the boxes you made were fantastic, and the dressing in period clothing was spot on, you must have done a lot of research to get the style right well done. We hope we can do something with you again in the future. thank you all for making our visit a good one and also for the coffee and tea.
Thanks also to the head for wearing the uniform he looked very splendid indeed.
Regards, Brian (Cpl Bonkers)

Hey hey!!! Just wanted to say "HI!".
I spent most my school life, well more than just school life, here.
I was here from being a little nipper at 4 and didn't leave until they told me it was time to move on lol.
I even spent time at the school after I had left school, helping the kitchen staff (mum, Jo worked in the kitchen for years!!). The school was amazing and the teachers were cool, especially Mr.Wood!!!
Thanks for the great memories. xoxoxo

Wow what a trip down memory lane Im having....Im an ex pupil (1977 - 1983) and all these names keep popping into my head from the old days..Mr Buxton head teacher, Mrs Claricoats secretary, Mr McCourt (with 'eric' the cane!) Mrs Stone, Mrs Pick, Mrs Wood (welsh, dark hair), Mrs Hassell nee Chibnall, Miss Lawrence, Miss Reid - all teachers - and not forgetting the formidable Mrs Dawson and Mrs Pierce the dinner ladies gosh. I was based primarily at Cork lane and I remember them BUILDING the Featherby Drive site for the first time (before it got burnt down). And Timothy Sutcliffe... I remember you too - I think! Did your dad teach at the school? Dark hair, glasses? I remember once him being very concerned that we didnt know the Lord's Prayer so we all had to go home and learn it then come in and recite it! Oooh, and does anyone remember old Mr Franks the lollipop man!!??

Comment from a 30 year ex-student? That's nothing! I spent my childhood at this school 55 years ago, under post-war austerity, at its previous site. I hated the school diners, but have fond memories of everything else, including my first childhood romance. Congratulations on your achievements.

I attended Glen Hills County Primary School from 1948 to 1954. I am sorry that the old site at Cork Lane has gone, but pleased to see that the school is still successful and thriving. I went on to serve in the Royal Navy and the Police in Lancashire and I am now retired. Glen Hills provided me with a good start to life
With thanks to Beverley Truemq

08 April 2007 00:00:00
I found this website by accident but I was fascinated to see how much everything seems have changed since I was a pupil there, although I can still recognize parts.
I'm now taking my AS Levels but I always look back on my memories of Glen Hills very fondly.
I still miss everything about it; from Mr Wood (the head teacher then) singing "Jesus' Love", to the wall in the playground that was painted with fish!

21 October 2006 00:00:00
I remember coming to this school about 4 years ago, feeling happy that it was my last year!! Now I wish I could go back!! I go to south Wigston High School now and often reminice with fond memmories of the school!! I'd like to say hello to Mrs. Startin, as she was my teacher in year 5, and congratulations to Mr. Sutcliffe for making headteacher, as when I was there he was only deputy and taught year 5 in the class room next to ours!! I'm not as cheeky as I used to be anymore, and I hope that's good news for Mrs. Startin! I have completely different friends now, and over the past 3 and a bit years have had to make new friends several times!! It's good to see the pictures of the new library, as it looks much bigger and brighter. I remember the old cork lane building, and my year group was actually the last to be taught there so I'm glad that you remembered to mention it on here!! The school was brilliant when I was a pupil there, and help me get further in my education as I'm now in top set for mst thing and did well in my year 6 SATs, and should do well now in year 9. The school looks as if it's improved since I went there, and I always thought it was a fantastic school.

Thank you! Keep in touch!
